The Flaming Lips Debut "Convinced Of The Hex" On Colbert

The Flaming Lips are hot into their promotions run for their new studio LP, Embryonic. The album, set to be released October 13th via Warner Bros, is the Lips' first effort since 2006's At War With The Mystics. They have been playing several shows leading up to the release date, including a choice guest spot on The Colbert Report last night. Following a humorous interview with Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, they launched into the very Yo La Tengo-esque "Convinced Of The Hex," the first track off of Embryonic. Check it out:

It's a bit of a leap from their other recent material, but is still really good. I'm not sure who the two auxiliary instrumentalists were, but they do an excellent job in filling out the Flaming Lips' sound.

Wayne Coyne's interview with Stephen Colbert touches on the Lips' mind-altering music, and also questions how bad the state of Oklahoma must be to have "Do You Realize" as its official state rock song. Check out the pretty laughable interview after the jump.

I get to see the Flaming Lips again in a little over a month, when they take the stage at the 11th annual Voodoo Experience in New Orleans, LA. I had an incredible time photographing the Lips the last time I caught them, so I'm really looking forward to another chance at it. Anyone else going to Voodoo?
