On The Road With... The Sour Notes: The Last Mile
Submitted by eggs on Thu, 01/21/2010 - 14:51.
I should have posted this a couple days ago, as The Sour Notes finished their tour a while ago, but I'm finally getting to it. The final post from the "On The Road" series finds the band leaving New York City, and headed home with stops in Nashville, Fayetteville and the final tour stop in Dallas. This time Eric Morales feeds us the intro, but the closing words belong to frontman Jared Boulanger, as he recaps his time on the road. Thanks to The Sour Notes for being my guinea pigs in the first of (hopefully!) many "On The Road" series to come. You guys provided some excellent coverage over the past few weeks!

On The Road With... The Sour Notes: New York City
Submitted by eggs on Fri, 01/15/2010 - 16:57.
With only a few days left on the road, The Sour Notes made their most high profile stop at The Cake Shop in New York City. Their short tour served mostly as a warm-up for the NYC show, and by the sounds of it, it went over quite well. Eric Morales, who's been serving somewhat as the bands documentarian, fed us another host of paragraphs about their time in The Big Apple. He also had the time to put together a few video clips of their travels earlier in the tour, mostly on the road from Atlanta to Baltimore.
Check out Eric's words, photos and videos after the jump.
On The Road With... The Sour Notes: Carrboro & Baltimore
Submitted by eggs on Mon, 01/11/2010 - 15:34.
As we continue our On The Road series with Austin band, The Sour Notes, we check back in with documentarian Eric Morales. Eric brings us a nice recap of their time spent both on and off the road from Carrboro, NC all the way through their night off in Baltimore, MD. He's quite the writer, and I'm happy to have his words, photos and video here on BOT – check out his On The Road tour diary after the jump.
On The Road With... The Sour Notes: New Orleans & Atlanta
Submitted by eggs on Wed, 01/06/2010 - 15:19.
The Sour Notes are now almost a full week into their winter tour, and have made the most out of it. With a day off, the band headed to New Orleans to take part in a bit of debauchery before departing for a show at Atlanta's Drunken Unicorn. Photographer and videographer Eric Morales, who's been on the road with the band documenting every step of the way, decided to send in words about their trip to The Big Easy. For the Atlanta stop, drummer Travis Hackett took a second stab at writing, and gives us a good write-up of their time in the city.
You can check out both blogs, and a bunch of Eric's pictures, after the jump.
On The Road With... The Sour Notes: Austin & Houston
Submitted by eggs on Sun, 01/03/2010 - 01:32.
The Sour Notes are already a few days into their tour, with successful performances in Austin and Houston. For some reason, they've taken on a second responsibility, and humbly agreed to send in tour diaries, photos and videos of their time both on the road and off. They've brought videographer and photographer Eric Morales on the road to document their second tour, who has already provided some excellent footage from their stop at Rice University's KTRU Radio earlier before their Houston performance. Drummer Travis Hackett took the first stab at writing, providing commentary on their New Year's Eve performance in Austin at The Ghost Room. Frontman Jared Boulanger gave us the second round of words about their CD Release show in Houston at Rudyard's Pub just down the street from BOT headquarters. You can check out both diary entries, and photos and video from Eric Morales after the jump.
Tonight: The Sour Notes @ Rudyard's
Submitted by eggs on Fri, 01/01/2010 - 13:59.One of our favorite groups to come out of Austin, The Sour Notes, will be hitting up Houston's Rudyard's Pub for the release of their latest LP, It's Not Gonna Be Pretty, with support from Spain Colored Orange and tour mates Row Zero. They kicked off their tour last night in Austin, and will be traversing the south and east coast for the next week-and-a-half. They've loaded up their new (old) van, Jacque, and have willingly committed to reporting back to BOT while on the road. We plan to feature words and pictures from The Sour Notes over the course of their winter tour, so hopefully some crazy adventures pan out.
The other day, I had the chance to have a bit of a discussion with frontman Jared Boulanger about The Sour Notes' latest album and their impending tour. He had tons to say about it all, so feel free to scope the interview, and a listing of their tour dates after the jump.
The Sour Notes - Received in Bitterness
Submitted by cereal on Sat, 02/14/2009 - 22:23.Austin-based indie-pop quartet The Sour Notes welcomed 2009 by releasing a new album, Received in Bitterness, and playing a celebratory show at Rudyard's in Houston. Read what Cereal had to say about the album and view photos from the Notes' Rudyard's show after the jump.

New Video: The Sour Notes - Is It Happening?
Submitted by cereal on Wed, 12/03/2008 - 04:29.Austin-based indie-pop quartet The Sour Notes quickly landed on my list of bands to watch after catching their debut album release party/first show ever last May. The dreamy, reflective collection of songs that is The Meat of the Fruit served as an impressive introduction to the band, and I've been looking forward to their next studio effort ever since. The Sour Notes' new album, Received in Bitterness, is due out on January 1; an in-store performance at Cactus Music and a CD release party at Rudyard's in Houston are planned for January 2.
The band also boasts a spiffy new video for Bitterness track "Is It Happening?" Check it:

Their next show will go down on December 11 at the Mohawk in Austin; the band will spend most of January on the road in support of their new album. Check their Myspace page for dates and details.

Album Review: The Sour Notes - The Meat of the Fruit
Submitted by cereal on Thu, 08/07/2008 - 01:06.There are several album reviews we've been meaning to write for some time now, but just haven't found the time (and/or proper discipline) to get the words onscreen. We've slapped ourselves on our collective wrists and, tails between our legs, pledge to improve. This post will kick things off with Cereal's take on The Sour Notes' debut effort, The Meat of the Fruit.

Ume, Lymbyc Systym and The Sour Notes @ The Mink/Backroom
Submitted by cereal on Thu, 05/29/2008 - 01:41.On Saturday, May 24, I was ordered by the evil BOThead overlord Eggs (kidding (kinda)) to cover the Ume/Lymbyc Systym/The Sour Notes show at The Mink/Backroom in Houston. I had just settled in to enjoy a slothful holiday weekend, and was not exactly pleased at the prospect of braving the rabid humidity to take pictures and jot down notes in a poorly lit venue, but I went nonetheless - and I'm quite glad that I did.
