Outside Lands 2009: Sunday In Photos

It took me two full festival days to realize that I could take much better pictures with my longer zoom lens, so I switched them out for Sunday, August 30th at the Outside Lands Festival. Headliner Tenacious D topped the day's bill, but it was the earlier offerings that had me most excited

Outside Lands 2009: Sunday

The final day of Outside Lands 2009 was my most anticipated and jam-packed of the entire festival. We found ourselves running from stage to stage to catch bits and pieces of performances from Other Lives, Sherry Sirof, Brent Weinbach, Atmosphere, The Avett Brothers, The Dead Weather, Modest Mouse, Ween, Band Of Horses and festival closer Tenacious D.

Outside Lands 2009: Saturday In Photos

Saturday of the 2009 Outside Lands Festival was full of new discoveries, old favorites and a familiar headliner in Dave Matthews Band. I brought my camera along, but was somewhat lazy with it throughout the day (which I made up for on Sunday). I was able to capture a few extra images, though, so feel free to check them out after the jump.

Outside Lands 2009: Saturday

Saturday of the 2009 Outside Lands Festival started off a bit late due to some necessary tourism throughout the city of San Francisco. We made it to the festival just in time for Mastodon afternoon set, and stayed to check out performances from Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave., Bat For Lashes, TV On The Radio, Deerhunter, Conor Oberst & the Mystic Valley Band and the evening's headliners Dave Matthews Band.

We had an action-packed Friday during the 2009 Outside Lands Festival, and I brought my camera along to capture the event as best as I could without photo pit privileges.

Outside Lands 2009: Friday

My final festival of the summer, and damn was it a good one. From Akron/Family's opening notes on Friday until Tenacious D's closing set on Sunday, Outside Lands was something special. Friday saw San Francisco's Golden Gate Park jam-packed with talent on each of the seven stages. I was lucky enough to witness sets from Akron/Family, Built To Spill, The Dodos, Blind Pilot, The National, Q-Tip, Tom Jones, Thievery Corporation and the days headliner Pearl Jam.

Back From Outside Lands

Outside Lands 2009: Friday

What a festival Outside Lands 2009 turned out to be! With its natural surroundings encompassed by one of the greatest cities in the world, OSL successfully accomplished its goal of bringing tons of great music to the masses. Each and every band brought something special to their performances in the famed Golden Gate Park, and everyone made it towards the exit on Sunday night with euphoric glimmers on their collective mugs.

I will be filling BOT with a bunch of content from the festival, including full day-by-day reviews, photo galleries and a best-of video post. Stay tuned!

Off To Outside Lands

Tomorrow morning, I ship off to the airport to catch the earliest flight to San Francisco to attend the second annual Outside Lands Festival. It's always nice to experience a new festival, but my main attraction is the city that will encompass OSL all weekend. Between Haight-Ashbury, Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf, Lombard Street, and every other attraction I've yet to see, I'm afraid I might miss some of the festival just trying to get it all in. Speaking of the festival, I'm looking forward to catching headliners Pearl Jam and Tenacious D for the first time, as well another showing from one of my all-time fav's, Dave Matthews Band. On top of Pearl Jam on Friday, the day will find me witnessing sets from Akron/Family, Built To Spill, The Dodos, The National, Q-Tip and Tom Jones among others. DMB's support on Saturday includes The Dirtbombs, Extra Golden, Street Sweeper Social Club, Portugal. The Man, Mastodon, Os Mutantes, Bat For Lashes, TV on the Radio, Conor Oberst & the Mystic Valley Band and Deerhunter. Jack Black and Kyle Gass' Sunday night festival closing set will be preceded by performances from Other Lives, Atmosphere, The Avett Brothers, The Dead Weather, Modest Mouse, Ween, M.I.A. and Band of Horses and several others on the festival's seven stages.

I will be tweeting all day everyday from the festival and its many aftershows, so feel free to follow me. Also, YouTube will be live streaming several sets all weekend for those who can't make the trek to the Bay Area. To those that will be in attendance, I hope to see you there!

Outside Lands Announces Schedule, Adds Albino! and Other Lives

I just recently found out that I'd be attending the second annual Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival, and after scoping the entire line-up, I couldn't be happier. It will not only be my first time at the festival, but also my first time in California, which is exciting in its own right. Headliners for the three day event include Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band and the recently announced replacement for the Beastie Boys, Tenacious D (!). While perusing Twitter earlier today, Ranger Dave, Outside Lands' official spokesperson, sent out a tweet announcing the release of the schedule, as well as a few new artists to the list. Stillwater, Oklahoma quintet, and BOT favorite, Other Lives were added, as well as local afro-beat ensemble Albino!. I'm looking forward to catching both of these early afternoon sets.

After looking through the schedule, I only have a few minor conflicts including Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears vs. The National, Q-Tip vs. Incubus, and Thievery Corporation vs. Pearl Jam on Friday, Portugal. The Man vs. Dengue Fever and Deerhunter vs. Conor Oberst on Saturday, and The Dead Weather vs. Modest Mouse and Ween vs. Band of Horses on Sunday. I've seen most of the bands that conflict with the bands I haven't seen, so these decisions should be quite easy. Now, I have two-and-a-half weeks to figure it out and start getting excited.

Start planning your own weekend with Ranger Dave's Magic Scheduler.

See you there?

Outside Lands 2009 Initial Line-Up

While you can't top Radiohead's headlining set of last year, the folks behind the 2009 Outside Lands festival have done a great job of trying to rival it. The headliners for the second annual San Francisco festival have come straight out of the 90's, with Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band and the Beastie Boys leading the bill. The rest of line-up for the August 28-30 festival is Bonnaroo-strong, featuring an amazing undercard that includes Incubus, Ween, Modest Mouse, Band of Horses, TV on the Radio, Jack White's new project The Dead Weather and Tom Jones(!). Check out the following video, which craftily puts all of the bands into a clever little song.
