Virgin Mobile Festival (Baltimore) in Videos

In what seemed like an endless weekend of music on the east coast with All Points West in New York and the Baltimore edition of Virgin Mobile Festival, people made their decisions and ended up in one city or the other. Those that made their way to Baltimore found themselves surrounded by a headliner assault on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday found both Jack Johnson and the Foo Fighters filling the headlining spots with Wilco, Chuck Berry & The Silver Beats, The Offspring, The Swell Season, Bloc Party, Lupe Fiasco, and many more performing on the two main stages. Sunday's headlining spots were taken by Nine Inch Nails and Kanye West, with big names like Bob Dylan, Stone Temple Pilots, Iggy & The Stooges, Lil' Wayne, The Black Keys, She & Him, and more on the main stages. Virgin Mobile Festival also featured a dance stage, highlighted by sets from Underworld, Moby, Ferry Corsten, Armin Van Buuren, Chromeo, and a ton of other make-yo-ass-shake DJ's. A bunch of kind festival-goers were generous enough to tape some of their experiences to share with the world, and we've rounded up some footage for your viewing pleasure.

Newport Folk Festival on National Public Radio

While most hipsters were attending Chicago's main event this past weekend, the grandaddy of all American folk festivals was going on about a thousand miles away in Newport, Rhode Island. Over the course of August's first weekend, the Newport Folk Festival featured performances by Trey Anastasio, Brian Wilson, Jimmy Buffet, The Black Crowes, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Levon Helm, Gillian Welch, Cat Power, Richie Havens and dozens more acoustic guitar-toting artists and bands. National Public Radio took care of streaming and recording duties, and have kindly put several of the sets up for listen on their website.

She & Him with Yo La Tengo - Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?

You would think that being as cute as she is with such a great voice (and backing band, may I add...) that she would be a little less shy. Oh well, this is still an amazing performance!

So, do I smell a tour?

Album Review: She & Him - Volume One

She & Him is a new collaborative musical project between actress Zooey Deschanel and alt-singer/songwriter M. Ward. Before you roll your eyes at the mention of yet another actress attempting to break into the music industry, give She & Him's debut, Volume One, a listen. Chances are you'll be pleasantly surprised by their folk/alt-country/indie-pop concoction.
