G. Love & Special Sauce/Tristan Prettyman @ Warehouse Live

When I was a youngster, just developing my roots in music discovery, I used to bike over to the local grocery store and browse the current magazine selections. I remember looking through the music section for just the right one. Rolling Stone didn't entice me, neither did Spin nor Modern Drummer (I'd just started hitting the skins). Third, fourth, fifth, sixth...ALL CRAP! Finally, I came upon the song "Cold Beverage" by a band called G. Love & Special Sauce. I was an instant fan. What could be better to a young teen than a funky-ass song about lemonade?

On Thursday, February 21st, more than ten years later, I found myself with that song in mind, sitting at Warehouse Live, waiting for said band to perform after tour support Tristan Prettyman warmed up the crowd.

This track was necessary for two reasons: (1) G. Love & Special Sauce played at Warehouse Live last Thursday, and (2) it's about cereal, dammit.

Carpe ientaculum.
