Band Of Horses - "Compliments"

Finally, after almost a three year wait, we are finally getting a new Band Of Horses album. I'm not sure what took so long in the creation process, but that all doesn't matter now because their 3rd album, Infinite Arms, is set for a May 18th release date. I've been lucky enough to catch Band Of Horses several times over the past few years, but during those performances, they only busted out a small handful of new songs. Just today, Ben Bridwell and his cronies released the first taste of what's to come on the new album in form of a music video for the first single "Compliments." It's a good tune, not my absolute favorite yet, but it's definitely in tune with the sound on their past two albums. I'm really expecting a lot out of a three year album, so hopefully it all just gets better from here. Check out the video...

Crazy video – not the best to watch if you decided to take a bunch of hallucinogenics. I can't wait for this album!

New Band of Horses at Coachella

Band of Horses rocked the California desert during Coachella this past weekend, bringing plenty of classics to their early evening crowd. With a new record set for release later in the year, and a tour schedule that will find them playing numerous festivals, some new material was bound to reach YouTube quickly. Coachella got at least one new song, which was promptly posted to the interweb for us all to enjoy.

Nice and chill, but still has that same old BoH feel to it. If you add it to this song, and the track "Why You Never Get Older," which we heard in Austin a few times last fall, the new album should be great. I can't wait to catch them this summer!

Band of Horses to play 'secret' ACL aftershow at the Parish Room

Rumors have been flying over the past few days about a purported secret Band of Horses Austin City Limits Music Festival aftershow. Sixth Street venue The Parish Room officially announced the show yesterday, so it's not exactly a secret anymore. And it's also not exactly a secret that we are ecstatic about this unexpected development - The Parish Room is a pretty small space, so this is sure to be an intimate/incredible experience. Fuck yeah!

Anyway, tickets went on sale at 10am today; they're $18 in advance, and $21 at the door. I wouldn't bank on getting them at the door, though - this show is guaranteed to sell out. Get 'em online here.

Opening for Band of Horses will be fellow ACL performers James McMurtry and the Heartless Bastards. A portion of the proceeds from the concert will benefit the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide access to affordable healthcare for Austin’s low-income, uninsured working musicians.

UPDATE: Looks like tickets have already sold out online. Not sure yet if any tickets have been reserved for sale at the door - will update if we receive any more information.

Band Of Horses roll out new song at Bumbershoot

Bookended by two city festivals (Bumbershoot and Austin City Limits) September's musical options always tend to be a little better than most other months. While ACL is an easy event for us to attend due to proximity, Seattle's Bumbershoot is just a bit out of driving distance, which explains why we've never been. This year's line-up was almost enough to get us there, though. If ACL didn't feature many of the similar artists (and we weren't broke) we would've added it to this year's list of BOT-attended festivals. Between Beck, !!!, Death Cab For Cutie, The Black Keys, Xavier Rudd, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Thao with the Get Down Stay Down, Man Man, The Whigs, Dan Deacon, and a host of others, a trip to the coffee capital for a weekend of amazing music seemed right up our alley.

Band of Horses have been on top of my must-see list for quite some time now. We were supposed to catch them in Austin awhile back, but ended up sleeping on purchasing tickets, and the show sold out. When the ACL line-up came out, we were thrilled to see them just a few names away from the headliners. Their albums, Everything All The Time and Cease To Begin, have been in heavy rotation at BOT HQ for the past couple months, getting me ready for their live performance. Since they're a young band, though, their catalog is limited to just those two albums, so any appearance of new material is a welcome treat. Last weekend at Bumbershoot, Band Of Horses took the opportunity to run through one of their new works, the tentatively titled "Trudy." A nice slower tune that shows off the vocal work of frontman Ben Bridwell, as well as his skill on harmonica, the new song continues with the same feel of 2007's Cease To Begin. With Band Of Horses playing through some of their new material, we've got our fingers crossed for the speedy delivery of a third album.

While the Foo Fighters have top billing on Sunday night of Austin City Limits, to me they are more of an after-show to the true headliner, Band Of Horses. Only a few more weeks!

ACL Schedule Announced!

Yesterday, the Austin City Limits Music Festival released the schedule in grid form for this years event. The 2008 edition of the festival is being headlined by The Foo Fighters, Robert Plant & Allison Krauss, and Beck among others. With the schedule out a good three-and-a-half months before the start of the festival, It gives attendees plenty of time to plan their route of attack. Many conflicts are already standing out for me including N.E.R.D. vs. David Byrne on Friday, September 26th, Beck vs. Robert Plant & Allison Krauss on Saturday the 27th, and The Raconteurs vs. Gnarls Barkley on Sunday the 28th. There are plenty more conflicts on top of those, but when you enjoy and care about music as much as we do, you're bound to have these problems at music festivals.

Take a look at what conflicts you might/might not have after the jump

Band Of Horses - No One's Gonna Love You

Band Of Horses became my most anticipated band to see after I checked Radiohead off the list last weekend. ACL needs to hurry up and get here damnit!

This is their new video for "No One's Gonna Love You", my second favorite song off of Cease To Begin (I could SLEEEP, I could SLEEEeep, when I lived alone, is there a ghost in my house...).

It's quite an odd video with all the bottle breaking, but what the hell, right?

Justice, Devotchka, Band Of Horses, TV on the Radio set for Monolith Festival

The initial line-up for this years Monolith Festival was released today. It features local favorites Devotchka headlining Saturday, September 13, and Parisian electro-geniuses Justice closing the festival on Sunday, September 14. The second annual event is set to take place at the unbelievably gorgeous Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, CO. Also featured on the bill are recent blog darlings Vampire Weekend, Seattle's Band Of Horses, hip-hop hipster Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, soul-songstress Sharon Jones and her Dap Kings, and iPod Touch-commercial stars CSS.

The Video Omelette: Jan 20, 2008

This week's Video Omelette features the bands that I'm currently overplaying. I always find myself overplaying bands and getting really sick of them. I never seem to learn my lesson either, which in turn makes me stop listening to bands for a while. Maybe that is why I am constantly seeking out new music? Actually, I'm sure that's why.

Anyway, here is my Video Omelette.

My New Years Resolution!

Keeping a New Years resolution is pretty much impossible for me. I am sure many people are in the same boat. I have quit smoking three times. I have gone on four unsuccessful diets. It just does not work for me. This year I have decided to make one that would stick. My New Years resolution is to see as many great live acts as I can in 2008. I have not had any trouble going to great live shows in the past so I thought that this would be the perfect resolution for me (I am quitting smoking for a fourth time on the 7th of January. The reason for quitting on the 7th is to make sure it's not actually a resolution).

The beginning of this year is shaping up to be a pretty exciting one musically. Bands are starting to book their spring dates, and Houston, Austin and beyond are starting to fill in their calendars. Here's a list of shows that we here at Breakfast On Tour are really starting to get amped about.
