Gem and Jam 2009; Saturday @ The Rialto Theatre

After a successful Friday night kick-off to the 5th annual Gem and Jam festival, everyone was eagerly anticipating Saturday night's lineup. The night's activities would involve moving to a different venue just down the street, the significantly larger Rialto Theatre. Many festival-goers wondered how the venue would be set up; it's located in downtown Tucson, and the bill stated that two stages would be present, one of which would be outdoors. The schedule was quite disorganized – many people had no idea who was playing when – but the set-up was superb, thanks to an alley adjacent to the venue that was annexed for the outdoor events. It was nice to get a little fresh air and a break from the madness inside, all while still listening to good music.

The 2009 Gem & Jam will take place February 6th-8th in Tucson, AZ. The event will feature performance painting, art, mineral vendors and, of course, an excellent line-up of musical performances. The festival, which runs concurrently with the Tucson Gem Show, will be held at two Tucson locations. View the musical schedule, which obviously excites us BOTheads most, after the jump!

Ghostland Observatory @ House of Blues

Houston's newest venue, House of Blues, played host to electro-funk duo Ghostland Observatory on Tuesday, October 14th. While we are pretty big fans of the up-and-coming Austinites, we actually were more excited to see what the House of Blues had to offer. With the venue's promising calendar, we were really hoping for good things to come from our first experience at the brand new establishment.

Willie Nelson, Ghostland Observatory, Grupo Fantasma to perform at South Padre International Festival

Apparently, some broseph was smoking something funky in South Padre over spring break and came up with the idea of gathering a bunch of bands down there to play. He pitched the concept to his father, who ultimately gave him the money for it - so long as his father could pick a few of the bands. They came to an agreement, and now we have Willie Nelson, Ghostland Observatory, Foghat, and Grupo Fantasma playing the same festival. (This is not necessarily a true story...) This line-up is one of those "only in Texas" type things, but for the low price of $70, why not?

Voodoo Music Experience 2008 Line-Up

Voodoo Music Experience has become somewhat of a tradition for Breakfast On Tour. As you might know by now, it is where we dreamed up the idea for this little website. It is also a place where we have experienced two years of amazing music. Originally leaning towards more of a rock following, Voodoo has transformed itself into a three day, multi-genre destination featuring many established and up-and-coming bands and artists. Previously announced headliners Nine Inch Nails, R.E.M, and the Stone Temple Pilots are now going to be joined by emo-godfathers Death Cab For Cutie, Denver gypsy-folkers Devotchka, Austin BOT-favorites Ghostland Observatory, and ex-Fugee Wyclef Jean. Taking place in New Orleans, the tenth anniversary of the festival is also set to feature some of the best names in jazz and funk including the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

Get excited people!

Ghostland Observatory - Heavy Heart

This is one of the new tracks from the yet-to-be-released album Robotique Majestique. I can't get enough of this song, especially the delicious beat.

Ghostland Observatory

There may be no party in a sad, sad city, but that certainly wasn't the case Friday, November 9 when Aaron Behrens and Thomas Turner of Ghostland Observatory took the stage at Warehouse Live. If the lasers, Turner's cape, and Behrens' long braids and glossy shirt didn't tip you off, the immediate dance party that began with the first note did: this was going to be a funky night.
