Channel to Watch: Palladia

Music television actually worth watching - who'd have thunk it? The MTV Network recently revealed that their Music High-Definition (MHD) channel will present a fresh face beginning September 1. The changes start with a new name - Palladia - and continue with expanded music programming. As part of the planned renovations, the channel will premiere a different concert every Saturday at 9pm EST/8pm CST. Palladia also aims to curate "the finest collection of seminal rock movies ever in one place," offering movies every Thursday at 9pm EST/8pm CST.

Palladia will kick off its first revamped week by celebrating "Outdoor Music Week," an event that will feature an impressive roster of outdoor music concerts. Footage from this year's Glastonbury and Isle of Wight festivals will be aired during the first week of September, as will open-air sets from Dave Matthews Band and Duran Duran. But the programming scheduled for Friday, September 5 is what really caught our eye: on that day, Palladia will premiere a special featuring BOT's favorite festival, ROTHBURY. If you weren't able to make it to the inaugural edition of this Michigan musical extravaganza, this will be a great opportunity to see some of the greatness you missed. You might also find yourself compelled to attend the 2009 event - if they include any footage from the Sherwood Forest, this is almost guaranteed.

MTV Networks' MHD: Music High-Definition Channel Kicks Into High Gear With New Programming and a New Name - Palladia

High-Definition Channel Boosts Original Programming With Premieres and Theme Weeks Including September's 'Outdoor Music Week' Featuring 10 Superstar Concert Telecasts

NEW YORK, Aug. 12 -- MTV Networks' elite high-definition music channel MHD is upping the ante for HD television viewers with a heavy influx of premier, high-definition music programming and a new name: Palladia.

Effective September 1, MHD will become Palladia, reflecting the state-of-the-art channel's rich and varied musical offerings to viewers eager for an immersive, high-definition home entertainment experience. The term Palladia conveys a sense of spectacle -- a grand stage, a vast arena and the excitement of live musical performances.

The Palladia name solidifies the channel's position as the premier music channel in the growing high-def universe. The channel's additional exclusive programming will also help distribution partners meet consumer demand for music in HD whether it's on a high-definition tier or on a VOD platform.

"It's a bigger, more distinct name for a channel that has grown in size as well as satisfaction among music HD fans," said Tom Calderone, Executive Vice President and General Manager of VH1 who also oversees Palladia. "We're also reinforcing that the channel is THE home for an increasingly broad range of musical styles and artists in high-def performances that can't be seen anywhere else. We believe these changes will help our distributor partners as they continue to sell HD and strive for the best content."

Palladia ruins concert with commercials

I dont like commercials DURING a concert.... whats the point of cranking it up to enjoy the show and you get commercials poping up every third song. This ruins the whole continuity of the show!

Re: Palladia ruins concert with commercials

Yeah, I feel you there. I was really disappointed with their Rothbury special. Only about 50 minutes long - and half of that was DMB. Seemed like they had commercials between every song they showed. Kinda lame. I was really hoping for something better.

If Palladia really wants those watching to know their name- they should try using a font that we can read. Otherwise, thank you so very much...
