The Tallest Man on Earth Take Away Show

I recently got turned on to the raspy folk stylings of Swedish singer/songwriter Kristian Mattson, better known as The Tallest Man on Earth, and I'm really digging the characteristically awesome videos that La Blogotheque shot of him last December. These were taken while he was in New York City for a three-night run with Bon Iver. Captured at the Music Inn in Greenwich Village, the vids are both beautiful and make me want to jump on a plane to check out the melange of musical instruments for myself.

Dan Deacon, Future Islands, Teeth Mountain and B L A C K I E @ the Orange Show

File this under "Articles that should have been posted a long time ago." This one's for you, Zach.

When Eggs and I first started attending live music events at the Orange Show over a year ago, it almost felt as if we were part of some secret club. Most of the shows we went to weren't sold out and the crowds tended to veer older, as the bulk of Houston's hipsters hadn't discovered the citrusy venue yet. The past couple of times we've visited, however, have clearly indicated a shift in the monument's fanbase. The Orange Show's booking has taken a decidedly more indie turn, and with it the clothes have gotten more confusing and the dance parties more rambunctious. Thursday, April 16th was a perfect indication of this new shift, as Baltimore-based interactive electro man Dan Deacon brought his energetic mash-up fun to the orange-flavored pseudo-circus. Along for the ride were openers Future Islands, Teeth Mountain and B L A C K I E.

Dark Was the Night - Live @ Radio City Music Hall

Yesterday, Eggs and I picked up tickets to Dark Was the Night Live, a musical extravaganza set to take place on Sunday, May 3rd at New York's famed Radio City Music Hall. If you're familiar with the Dark Was the Night compilation that was released earlier this year, you probably already know that it was put out by the Red Hot Organization, an international charity dedicated to fighting AIDS through raising funds and awareness. A ton of great artists were involved in the group's 20th compilation release, and many of them will also be making appearances at next month's commemorative concert. Included on the bill so far are David Byrne, Bon Iver, Dirty Projectors, Feist, The National, My Brightest Diamond, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings and Dave Sitek, with more to be announced. Take a look at the compilation's track listing after the jump, and you'll see that there could be no such thing as a bad addition to this event's artist roster.

Tickets are $38-$58 and can be purchased here. Anyone got a spare Sunday to play with us in New York?

Mulberry Mountain Harvest Music Festival 2009 Lineup Additions

Mulberry Mountain just keeps looking better and better. Our phenomenal experience last year made this summer's event a must-attend for us, and the recently announced additions to the lineup have sweetened the deal even further. Last year's final day headliner, Umphrey's McGee – who braved Hurricane Ike-related storms to deliver their set, will be returning to Arkansas for the festival in August; Michigan's Greensky Bluegrass, who we caught at ROTHBURY last July, will also be making an appearance, along with fellow additions Chicago Afrobeat Project, Delta Nove, Sarah Hughes Band, Eckobase, Weakness for Blondes, Opal Fly w/ Foxfire & Thy Faery Pranksters, and Pope County Bootleggers.

Annuals & Jessica Lea Mayfield @ Walter's On Washington

So, this is really, really late. Like, obscenely late. As in, if I were your friend and forgot about your birthday for this long, you probably wouldn't be my friend anymore late. I have lots of excuses (some of them actually good ones!), but I'll spare you. Annuals and support act Jessica Lea Mayfield came through Houston's Walter's On Washington back in February and put on a lively, entertaining show that has since stood out in my mind as one of the best shows I attended during the first quarter of '09. Widespread Panic & Allman Brothers Band Tour (Houston Date)

BOT favorites Widespread Panic and the Allman Brothers Band have announced a slew of tour dates together in late summer which will find them traveling throughout the East and Midwest. The tour, which takes a month off in September, will finish up on October 17th here at Houston's (The Woodlands) Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. It should be a great pairing of Southern rock titans that should find both groups collaborating throughout the two month tour.
