Inside The Scene: Houston Press Music Awards Showcase 2009
Submitted by eggs on Mon, 09/07/2009 - 21:54.One of Houston's premier local music events, the Houston Press Music Awards Showcase, took place last month in several different clubs spanning the breadth of downtown. We were in attendance, and had a damn good time catching sets from Runaway Sun, Free Radicals, B L A C K I E, The Tontons and Buxton among others. I forgot to charge my camera battery that day, so our coverage was limited to none, but thankfully KIAH-TV Channel 39 brought their video equipment along to document the day through a series of interviews and live performance clips. Many of our favorite Houston bands and personalities show up in the four-part documentary, which showcases the state of Houston music through the words of the bands and fans playing and attending the yearly event. I highly recommend watching this video series if you have a spare hour, especially if aren't from here and/or unfamiliar with our burgeoning indie scene.

Venue after venue continues to falter, leaving music hungry people with nowhere to turn. I have visions of The Rococo returning to it’s glory days of several years ago when on any given night I could catch great acts like Rusted Root, moe., Ratdog and Bela Fleck to name a few. Unfortunately, due to some pompous assed tenants that live above the absolutely gorgeous venue, the early curfew makes that possibility only an illusion. For lack of better wording, any one who has seen how wonderful the venue is, it seems like a complete waste of fucking space. Luckily, several of the mainstays still continue to thrive, such as Knickerbockers, Duffy's and The Zoo Bar, us fanatics can still get our fix.

Outside Lands 2009: Saturday In Photos
Submitted by eggs on Mon, 09/07/2009 - 14:18.Saturday of the 2009 Outside Lands Festival was full of new discoveries, old favorites and a familiar headliner in Dave Matthews Band. I brought my camera along, but was somewhat lazy with it throughout the day (which I made up for on Sunday). I was able to capture a few extra images, though, so feel free to check them out after the jump.

Outside Lands 2009: Saturday In Review
Submitted by eggs on Mon, 09/07/2009 - 13:53.
Saturday of the 2009 Outside Lands Festival started off a bit late due to some necessary tourism throughout the city of San Francisco. We made it to the festival just in time for Mastodon afternoon set, and stayed to check out performances from Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave., Bat For Lashes, TV On The Radio, Deerhunter, Conor Oberst & the Mystic Valley Band and the evening's headliners Dave Matthews Band.
