Benjamin Wesley Live From Joe Mathlete's Living Room

Houston's indie music scene has never been more vibrant, and one of its biggest contributors is instrumental extraordinaire Benjamin Wesley. I first caught Wesley perform with his other musical project, Tha Fucking Transmissions, a few years back, but it wasn't until seeing his solo project for the first time that I truly became intruiged. He mixes acoustic instruments with pre-fabricated beats, then layers his Jeff Mangum-ish vocals over the top. He is as talented of a musician as I've ever seen, and is just waiting to break into the national indie music scene. I suspect it will happen soon.

Recently, Wesley was recorded for a Live From Joe Mathlete's Living Room session where he performed his tune "Have You Ever Done It." Give it a watch:

I can assuredly tell you that nobody can make an accordion look as cool as Benjamin Wesley. Nobody.

Back From Outside Lands

Outside Lands 2009: Friday

What a festival Outside Lands 2009 turned out to be! With its natural surroundings encompassed by one of the greatest cities in the world, OSL successfully accomplished its goal of bringing tons of great music to the masses. Each and every band brought something special to their performances in the famed Golden Gate Park, and everyone made it towards the exit on Sunday night with euphoric glimmers on their collective mugs.

I will be filling BOT with a bunch of content from the festival, including full day-by-day reviews, photo galleries and a best-of video post. Stay tuned!
