Rock The Bells 2008: Special Guest Edition

We already know what all of the hipsters and folkies were up to this past weekend, but since most of you are undoubtedly asking yourselves: "What were all the hip-hop heads up to?", I thought that I would fill you in. Both Miami and New York City hosted a who's who of hip-hop allstars for the third edition of Rock The Bells. While both cities already featured stellar line-ups that included Nas, Mos Def, De La Soul, Method Man and Redman, and a re-united A Tribe Called Quest, along with whole host of others, New York brought a little something extra to the table by serving a few choice guest spots that no one was expecting.

Fleet Foxes - "Blue Ridge Mountains"

My biggest musical regret of this year so far is skipping the opportunity to see the Fleet Foxes in March when they came through with Blitzen Trapper. Due to Toast's early evening arrival in Houston the same night, and plans to see Wilco, My Morning Jacket and Yo La Tengo that weekend, we opted to lay low that night instead. If they come to your town, do not make the same mistake.

Last night they stopped by The Late Show with David Letterman to play through "Blue Ridge Mountains" off of their eponymous debut LP. Check it out:

Weezer Announces Fall Tour (well, sort of...) [updated with full dates]

It is quite obvious that Weezer has embraced the Internet's expansive grasp on today's music world, especially on YouTube. Recently they released a video for their newest single, "Pork and Beans", which highlights a host of characters that all received their fifteen minutes of fame due to the viral video site. Today they uploaded another clip to YouTube that finds them announcing their tour in quite a fun way. Give it a watch and see if you can figure it out.

If the video lists the cities in order, "The Weezers" tour will start in Boston on September 23rd, and then make stops in New York, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Austin, Dallas, Houston and Atlanta as well as some others that I can't figure out. Any guesses as to what other cities they will be stopping in?

Thanks to Cold Pizza for the tip!
